Music at Christ Church
Music is a vital part of worship at Christ Church. Under the leadership of music minister Eric Tuan and organist Ethan Haman, the Music Ministry seeks to nurture the musical gifts of every member of the church community. The joy of making music together is one of the most profoundly spiritual experiences we can have and helps us grow in love and faith.
The parish choir and children’s choir bring music to the Sunday Choral Eucharist at 10:15 a.m. and to other special events throughout the year. Quarterly Evensong services and concerts featuring dynamic young local musicians bring the church and local community together in a shared love of music.
The Parish Choir is a welcoming, dedicated group of twelve to sixteen singers who offer anthems and lead the congregational singing at the 10:15 am Choral Eucharist. Our director of music, Eric Tuan, strives to nurture the growth of every choir member through vocal training, a commitment to musical excellence, and the opportunity to sing a diverse range of choral literature. Although the bulk of our repertoire is drawn from the classical Anglican tradition, we explore a variety of styles, including gospel, folk, and contemporary.
We welcome anyone who would like to sing, regardless of musical background. The choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. before the 10:15 a.m. service, with an additional Thursday evening rehearsal (7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.) for those who can attend. Contact us if you are interested in joining – we would love for you to sing with us!
Watch this short video for a glimpse of the choir's experience on an average Sunday morning. Eric coaches the choir on the morning's hymns, and leads them in rehearsal on Mendelssohn's anthem Verleih uns Frieden.
The Ventana School Children’s Choir
This choir serves the children of Ventana School, the Episcopal school affiliated with Christ Church. Ranging in age from 5 to 9 years old, the children receive experience in solfège, basic music literacy, and performance skills. We sing a diverse range of secular and sacred music and perform for a variety of events at both Ventana School and Christ Church. For information about rehearsal times and to join, please contact us.
The ensemble-in-residence at Christ Church, Convivium is an innovative new vocal group dedicated to bringing passionate performances of underperformed repertoire to Bay Area audiences. Under the leadership of director Eric Tuan, the singers of Convivium present dynamic performances of music from the 15th to the 21st century. The ensemble’s pure yet vibrant sound is particularly suited to Renaissance and contemporary works. Convivium recently was commissioned to present two concerts of new works by members of the National Association of Composers USA (NACUS).
