At Christ Church, we support a wide range of local, regional, and international causes.  We hope this overview will help you to find a way to use your talents to reach out to those in need.

Rebuilding Together

Every April, members of CCLA join parishioners and volunteers across the country to provide modest home improvements to low-income homeowners. This year, we will join members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Menlo Park and Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in San Carlos to contribute to the home of Elizabeth Bosio, a resident of Menlo Park, on Saturday, April 29th. More information on Elizabeth and the project can be found here. For questions, or to get involved, contact Andy Ritger at andy.ritger@gmail.com.

Community Services Agency

CSA is a nonprofit agency helping the hungry, homeless, needy, youth, elderly, and families in Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills since 1957. The mission of CSA is to promote independence and self-sufficiency through direct service. At Christ Church we support CSA financially, and on the second Sunday of every month parishioners donate nonperishable food, which is blessed during the service and delivered to CSA.

Episcopal Community Services

Our Youth Group supports the Elm Hotel homeless shelter in San Francisco, a ministry of Episcopal Community Services, by collecting bedding, toiletries, mugs, and laundry supplies for guests.  At Christmas each year, the Youth Group puts up a giving tree in the Parish Hall under which church members and Ventana school families can place gifts for the residents in the shelter. The youth also distribute jackets and blankets to the homeless on the streets in San Francisco.

Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital

We host monthly dinners at the VA for patients at the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Unit and their families at the Fisher House.  The Polytrauma Rehabilitation Unit treats active duty military personnel learning to live with loss of limb and brain injury.  The Fisher House is a “home away from home” for families of patients at the hospital.  The dinners are prepared at Christ Church, and we welcome more people to help cook or serve meals.

We also host a summer barbecue at Shoup Park for patients in the Polytrauma Unit, their family members, and staff.

With funds raised at our annual Valentines Dinner Dance, we donate requested items for patients at the Polytrauma Rehabilitation Unit. Our gifts have included personal hygiene items, art therapy and gardening supplies, personal computers, radio/CD players, music CDs, and movie DVDs.

The Christ Church Outreach Committee also has collected funds in support of the Capt. Matthew Mounoukian Scholarships for Veterans at Foothill/DeAnza College.

The Third Place

This community education program at Christ Church, associated with Ventana School, is literally “The Third Place” on our campus.  Since our first program in 2007 we have grown into an organization serving parents and community members all over the Bay Area.  All our programs are nondenominational.  They include evening speaker series, family events, workshops, and a parent-child class, “Together with Toddlers.”  To learn more and find out about upcoming events visit The Third Place.

Partners for New Generations

Through PNG, members of Christ Church serve as mentors for local high-school students and as tutors for elementary and middle-school students.

Community Health Awareness Council

CHAC provides counseling in local schools and for community members in Los Altos, Mountain View, and neighboring towns.  CHAC was founded by Dodie Alexander of Christ Church. Christ Church supports CHAC financially.

Hogar San Andres

This orphanage in Peru serves mostly disabled children.  Christ Church has supported this orphanage for many years.

The Outreach committee welcomes your participation in any of these projects. If you have any questions, please contact Outreach chair Mona Armistead.
